Flat Pattern Work

1940's Inspired and Researched

We were each assigned a different era in my flat pattern development class and were responsible to conduct research using the Vogue magazines from the actual years 1900-Present.  The objective was to design four separate garments to be mix-and-matched and worn together to create at least two looks.  After conducting research, I decided to design a blouse with three-quarter length sleeves and a button up-front.  Unique necklines with the primary scoop shape were common and I decided to add my unique and personal touch of a scalloped neckline that can be seen in a few of my other designs as well.  The jacket is fitted at the waist and is able to flare out with the use of separate panels like flower petals, allowing for ease of movement and a cute look.  The bottoms added to this mini-collection are a pair of high waisted trousers, complete with side pockets and a cuffed hem with three detail stitching lines as well as a pleated and knee length skirt also fitted at the waist.

Inspired by the idea to make a red wedding dress, this formal wear gown  can be worn in two ways.  The very full underskirt piece fastens at the waist with two snaps and can be removed to be worn as a high-low dress.   The bold print of the skirt matched with the flowing of the light weight material when worn makes it a complete runway dress ready to be worn out for a special occasion.  The front features a lace detail triangle, the straps are made of a black lace and there is a mid-drop back, the sleeve ruffles at the shoulders are the same lace as the front piece with a pop of red lining underneath, descreatly quilted on top.

Fall 2014

The first Fashion Show I entered at Oregon State University was the Red Dress Fashion Show, in the fall of 2014. My red dress design was inspired by Fall and my university during this season when the leaves are falling all around the brick buildings.
