Frequently Asked Questions

BRIDAL

WHEN SHOULD I START ALTERATIONS ON MY WEDDING DRESS?

  • About 3-6 months before your big day! 3 months is plenty of time for standard alterations. 6 months is needed for more advanced alterations and customizations. It is also nice to get started early, especially during busy season. I require a minimum of 8 weeks from wedding date, otherwise there will be a $150 rush fee.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO EACH APPOINTMENT?

  • Please bring your wedding day shoes to every appointment as well as any specific undergarments you intend to wear with your gown.! If you have different shoes for your ceremony and reception, please bring both. If you will be wearing shape-wear or a corset style bra, please bring that as well. (But what if I don't have those items yet? That's okay too, come with your dress and we can talk about the best time to bring shoes, etc.).

HOW LONG IS EACH FITTING APPOINTMENT?

  • About 30 minutes - 1 hour depending on which area of the dress we are working on.

HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS SHOULD I EXPECT TO HAVE THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS?

  • On average, I see my brides for 3-5 fittings.

CAN I BRING GUESTS TO MY FITTING APPOINTMENTS?

  • Please limit the number of guests to 2 for each appointment as this is at a private home studio.

CUSTOM DESIGN
WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY FIRST MEETING WITH YOU TO DISCUSS A CUSTOM WEDDING DRESS?

  • As soon as possible! If you are thinking about having a custom-made wedding dress, the more time we have to prepare, the better! A minimum timeline of 6 months is required to design a custom wedding dress with me for your big day!

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY FIRST DESIGN MEETING?

  • The first step for designing your dream dress is to set up a design meeting, where we can sit down and talk about your dream dress. During this initial meeting, we will talk about your wedding, your visions for your dress, and my process. We will talk all about your likes and dislikes in relation to silhouette, fabrication, lace, beading, ect. During this meeting, we will also take a full-list of measurements. After this meeting, I will create a sketch for you and email you a copy of your sketch, contract, and price quote specific to your design.

SHOULD I GO DRESS SHOPPING BEFORE OUR CUSTOM DESIGN MEETING?

  • My designer goal is to make sure your dress dreams come to life based on the details and style preferences you share. Prior to this meeting, I highly recommend going dress “shopping” to make sure a custom dress is the way you want to go. It is important that you find out what styles and silhouettes you like and which look best on your body. This “shopping day” can be used as a learning experience to find the perfect style. Wedding dresses are unique in their structure, construction, fabric, trims, and weight. Some wedding dresses can be very heavy. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures while trying on the wedding dresses, not only for the memories, but also to discuss your likes and dislikes.

WILL I GET TO PICK OUT MY OWN FABRIC AND LACE?

  • Pretty much! Based on your inspiration, I will source specific fabrics and lace for your design! During your "Fit Bodice" Appointment we will look through some fabric swatches and lace options to narrow in on the perfect elements and trims for your design.

WHAT IS A FITTING/APPOINTMENT SCHEDULE LIKE FOR A CUSTOM WEDDING DRESS?

  • You can expect to have about 4-8 fittings for your custom wedding dress. Your First Custom Dress Fitting will be what I liked to call your "Fit Bodice" Appointment! During this fitting you will try on a mock-up of the upper portion of your dress. This will be made out of a sample style fabric and helps us to confirm the fit of your dress before cutting it out in your fashion fabric. After this appointment, we will start the real work on your wedding dress and all the remaining fittings will be in your actual gown!

HOW MUCH DOES A CUSTOM WEDDING DRESS COST?

  •  My custom wedding dresses start at a price of $1,800 and go up from there depending on style, fabric, lace/beading/details. Please keep in mind when declaring your dress budget that a custom wedding dress price actually includes all alterations! (As compared to off-the-rack dresses where you will be hit with an alterations price later down the road).
